Perplexity
AI visibility.
A source link is the beginning of verification. Build pages that answer a real research question and still hold up when someone opens the citation.

Perplexity AI visibility is your presence in Perplexity research answers, including linked citations to your pages and mentions supported by other sources. The useful question is not only whether you were cited, but what claim the citation supports and whether the visitor can act on it.
Perplexity describes its product as an answer engine that searches the web and provides sources. Its crawler documentation identifies PerplexityBot for surfacing websites in search results and recommends checking both robots permissions and its published IP information when configuring access.
Start with a question that needs evidence
Research questions often involve comparisons, definitions or the reliability of a claim. Choose one where your team can contribute something specific: an actual methodology, a product demonstration, a documented process or original data. A broad summary of other summaries gives a reader little reason to consult your page.
Define the intended reader and their next decision. A founder comparing reporting tools has different needs from an analyst checking how a metric is calculated. The first may need workflow fit and pricing scope; the second needs a formula and exclusions. Give each page a clear purpose rather than repeating a general introduction to AI search everywhere.
Make the source valuable without the assistant
Write the answer so that a visitor arriving directly can understand the problem, the evidence and the conclusion. Place the definition next to the method it describes. If you publish a number, include the denominator, date range and sample boundaries. Where a result is illustrative, label it before the reader reaches the number.
Support original material with a suitable artifact: a real annotated export, an approved customer example or a documented test protocol. Do not create a polished chart containing invented market data. A clear explanation of what is known and what remains unmeasured is useful research material and easier to maintain than an unsupported headline statistic.
Inspect crawler access at the delivery layer
Check the canonical page, robots policy and security configuration together. A crawler permission in one file does not resolve a challenge generated elsewhere. Use observed request information and the vendor's current verification guidance when the technical owner investigates access. Do not open the entire site to unverified traffic because a request claims to be a particular bot.
Once access is confirmed, return to the content question. Can a reader identify the answer quickly, follow the evidence and understand the limits? If important details require a form submission, consider publishing a suitable non-sensitive summary. A gated report can remain part of the conversion journey, but it should not be the only explanation of the claim.
Review the passage behind every sampled citation
Open the cited page and find the material supporting the answer. Classify the match as direct support, partial support, background context or unsupported. This simple review makes citation monitoring more useful than a raw counter. A source that discusses a subject generally may not substantiate the specific recommendation written beside its link.
Record whether the source is your website or an independent reference to the company. Both can matter, but they require different work. You can correct your own page directly. An inaccurate third-party statement may require a documented correction request outside the editorial workflow. Do not count an unrelated company with a similar name as a positive brand mention.
Compare sources with a decision matrix
For each buying question, list the criteria a reader must evaluate: scope, implementation, cost, evidence and limitations. Inspect whether the sources that appear actually answer those criteria. Use the gaps to improve your page, not to copy a competitor's phrasing or manufacture a list of favorable comparisons.
A helpful comparison can conclude that your product is unsuitable for a particular requirement. That clarity improves qualification. Keep competitor facts dated and linked to their own documentation where available. If a detail is unknown, say unknown. Avoid treating an unverified feature as missing or using an affiliate-style ranking without explaining the basis of the recommendation.
Connect research visibility to the next useful page
A visitor reading your methodology may need a product explanation next; someone reading a comparison may need pricing. Add descriptive links that follow that decision. Keep the primary conversion clear, but do not force every reader immediately into a meeting. The page should deliver its promised answer before asking for an action.
Review repeated questions over time with stable settings and record missing citations as well as successful ones. Pair the sample with referral and conversion data where available. A metric definition worth citing
An illustrative methodology page should define the eligible sample, show how failed runs are reported and explain whether repeated questions are counted separately. A worked example must be labeled as illustrative. In the citation review, check that the answer preserves the denominator and does not convert a small test panel into an industry benchmark.
How should a team calculate AI brand mention rate when some research runs fail?
Use a fresh session. Record the interface, date, context, answer and source URLs. This question is a starting point, not a guarantee of a particular response.

Perplexity visibility FAQ.
Is a citation the same as a recommendation?
No. A page may be cited for a definition or background fact without the answer recommending its company. Record the role of the citation.
Can I improve visibility just by adding source links?
Relevant sources strengthen verifiability, but outbound links alone do not establish usefulness or guarantee selection.
Should I publish original data?
Yes, when you can document the method, permissions and limitations. Clearly labeled examples are useful too, but they are not measured results.
