AI visibility / Governance

How do you change AI tracking questions without creating a misleading trend?

Keep a versioned core panel, record every wording or scope change and separate exploratory questions from comparable observations. When the buyer question changes, the new result may answer a different task. Report that break rather than presenting the combined series as an unchanged trend.

Evaluation framework · illustrative workflow

01 / Compare the evidence

What to inspect before you decide.

Governance / what to inspect
ChangeRecordComparison rule
01Question wordingOld and new text, reason and effective date.Treat substantive constraint changes as a new version.
02Market or languageTarget geography, language and reviewer.Avoid merging different market tasks silently.
03Tool or collection methodSurface, method and change date.Label a method break beside the result.
04Competitor setAdded or removed companies and rationale.Explain how the denominator or share-of-voice basis changed.

02 / Worked example

A budget constraint changes the task

Illustrative example · no client result

“Which CRM suits a service company?” and “Which CRM suits a service company with five users and a strict monthly budget?” are distinct tasks. Keep the first in the original core if it remains useful. Add the second as an exploratory or new-version question instead of replacing it and calling the resulting rank movement a like-for-like trend.

03 / Put it into practice

A useful next step, with an owner.

  1. 01

    Freeze the baseline

Give the panel a version and retain the exact wording of every question.

  2. 02

    Log the reason

Explain why a question was added, removed or changed and who approved it.

  3. 03

    Run an overlap where practical

Observe the old and new versions during a transition, then show the break explicitly in reporting.

04 / Where Arrow fits

Evaluate us by
the same standard.

Ask Arrow to agree the business, language, market and question panel before setup. If your strategy changes, confirm how the updated scope and observation records will be labeled.

05 / Common questions

The details behind the decision.

Can we add new questions?

Yes. Mark their start date and panel version so their results are not mistaken for an older baseline.

Should poorly performing questions be removed?

Remove questions when they no longer represent a useful buyer decision, not merely to improve the dashboard. Preserve their historical records.

What if the business enters a new market?

Treat the new market as an explicit scope change with appropriate questions and language review.

Can we compare different tools?

You can compare observations while retaining the tool and method labels. Do not describe the environments as identical.

What belongs in a panel change log?

Version, effective date, old and new wording or scope, reason, approver and any impact on the comparison basis.
